The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 18A isolated battery to battery charger (sometimes referred to as a B2B or DC-DC charger) intelligently and safely charges your leisure batteries from your vehicle’s starter battery whilst driving. As modern vehicles use smart alternators, the option of using a basic VSR is not viable in any vehicle with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 engine. The Orion-Tr Smart B2B is simple to install and simply requires access to the vehicle’s starter battery. The 18A model charges the leisure battery at a rate of 18A/hr.

Isolated charger
Isolated battery to battery chargers are suitable for systems grounded to a negative bus bar.
Smart functionality
Victron battery to battery chargers have built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to connect wirelessly to the VictronConnect App, which can be downloaded from the app store on Android or iOS devices. The unit can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch and has an engine running detection mechanism.
Battery to battery charger – use cases
It is not possible to use a basic VSR in any vehicle which has a smart alternator (Euro 5 and above) or a system with a lithium leisure battery. Battery to battery chargers are therefore required in these instances. B2B chargers are also recommended as they can safely charge your leisure battery to 100% by entering the ‘absorption’ phase, which VSRs aren’t able to do.
For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the (smart) alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery.
The Orion Tr-Smart charger can be used for both lead acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W and unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power.
Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C with a full rated output up to 40°C.
